Calling all Barbie collectors! Mattel has released a new Filipina-inspired Barbie for its Styled by Design Series, just in time for Filipino American History Month.
The toy company gave a closer look at the doll through its Instagram account as it wears a corset with large traditional terno sleeves, a malong-inspired skirt, and a pair of bakya with bahay kubo-sculpted heels.
Her look is elevated by a radiant crown depicting the Philippine sun, elegant gold janggay jewelry, and some intricate batok tattoos on her arms.
"Inspired by his heritage and haute couture style in the Philippines, designer Carlyle Nuera brings his cultural influences and artistry to life in spectacular fashion," Mattel stated.
Nuera said on Instagram that this Barbie is the "second coming" of his Mutya Barbie from 2015.
"If Mutya Barbie is the demure, responsible Ate[,] this new Barbie is the lil sis that always be galabanting (so, me lol). Ate Mutya Barbie even let lil sis borrow her jewelry; this new Barbie wears the exact same bracelet as Mutya Barbie!" he added.
The 2015 doll sported a long pink Filipiniana with a sheer overdress adorned with embroidered flowers and glittering gold jewelry. She also held a gold fan to match.
Priced at $100 (P5,732), the doll was made available Barbie Fan Club Members on Oct. 9, but was released to the general public on Oct. 10. The website noted that the item will be shipped on or before Dec. 20 this year.
The Styled by Design series celebrates the "personal and professional inspirations of Barbie Signature designers and creators" through premium design and high fashion aesthetic.
